In a strategic effort to enhance India's electronics and advanced materials landscape, Andhra Pradesh government has approved a Rs 2,550 crore investment for setting up a cathode material manufacturing plant by NPSPL Speciality Chemicals. Located in Chittoor district, this facility will span 105 acres, aiming to produce key components for lithium-ion batteries crucial for electric vehicles, consumer electronics, and energy storage systems.
Recognized under the Andhra Pradesh Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy (2025-30), the investment is a pivotal move towards reducing import reliance and boosting India's domestic capability in critical battery materials. The project, which promises to generate approximately 400 direct jobs, is poised to bolster a wider supply chain covering EVs, battery manufacturing, and electronics hardware.
The initiative positions Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of two growing trends: scaling up electronics manufacturing and driving global energy transition towards electrification. With substantial incentives like electricity duty exemptions and power cost support, the project signifies a major step in localizing vital electronics and battery value chain components, thereby strengthening India's strategic position in the sector.
