On Friday, Pope Leo XIV continued his impactful four-nation tour across Africa, with an inspiring day dedicated to Cameroon's youth. His schedule included a large Mass celebration and a visit to Cameroon's Catholic University, emphasizing his commitment to engage and motivate young people.
With a predicted turnout of 600,000 participants, the Mass in Douala marked the largest gathering of his 11-day odyssey, the first such African tour by an American pope. Later, in Youande, he addressed students and faculty at the Catholic University of Central Africa, urging the youth to rise above poverty and corruption.
Pope Leo's call for breaking the "chains of corruption" resonated deeply in a country grappling with leadership stagnation and economic disparity. While Cameroon experiences modest economic growth, benefits have not trickled down to the young populace, leading to frustration and a significant brain drain as skilled professionals seek opportunities abroad.
