The incident came to light on Wednesday evening in New Lenox, Illinois, prompting authorities to evacuate nearby homes as a precautionary measure.
The threat emerged soon after President Trump criticized Pope Leo XIV for his open disapproval of the war in Iran. Leo, the first U.S. pope, who hails from Chicago, has been a vocal opponent of the Middle Eastern conflict, taking a strong stance in his recent address in Cameroon.
Despite the investigation revealing no hazardous materials, police continue to search for the origin of the false alarm. Meanwhile, Trump contrasted his condemnation of Leo as overly liberal with praise for Leo's brother Louis, recognized for backing Trump's MAGA movement.
