All Aboard the Democracy Express!

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway took an innovative approach to civic engagement by launching a special 'Democracy Express' ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections. This initiative, leveraging the charm of the UNESCO World Heritage toy train, aimed to boost electoral participation among residents and tourists alike.

Starting from Darjeeling station, the Democracy Express embarked on a journey to the scenic Batasia Loop, serving as a mobile platform to underscore the significance of voting. This effort was collaboratively organized with the District Election Officer's office as part of a 'Mega SVEEP' programme.

To enhance the initiative's appeal, a cultural performance featuring a Sherpa cultural team kick-started the event at the Darjeeling railway station, inviting the community to celebrate and engage in the democratic process.
