Pope Leo XIV's African Journey: Hope and Challenges for Cameroon's Youth

Pope Leo XIV reached the halfway mark of his African tour with a symbolic day in Cameroon, aiming to connect with the nation's young people. He led a significant Mass in Douala, where an estimated 600,000 attendees gathered, marking the largest congregation of his current journey.

Following the spiritual event, Leo visited the Catholic University of Central Africa, engaging with students and educators. His message focused on the challenges facing the youth, particularly in a country where the median age is 18, yet 57% of young workers remain in informal employment.

Leo's speeches highlighted the need for breaking corruption and investing in education and entrepreneurship to stem the tide of emigration. His visit occurs amidst political tensions, with President Paul Biya's longstanding leadership under scrutiny following disputed elections.
