Mizoram authorities made a significant breakthrough by destroying drugs worth Rs 465 crore in Champhai district. Seized from various locations between March and October 2025, this contraband was cleared for destruction by the district court, marking a major victory in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking.
The drugs eliminated included 35.85 kg of heroin, 490.89 kg of methamphetamine, and 4.74 kg of alprazolam. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aaquib noted the operation as a milestone in enhanced enforcement efforts by local police, highlighting last year's destruction of Rs 117 crore worth of drugs in the district.
While emphasizing the need for sustained action and public cooperation, Aaquib urged for stronger awareness campaigns to deter youth from drug abuse. With Champhai's growing appeal as a tourist destination, maintaining a drug-free environment is crucial for preserving the area's natural beauty.
