In a tragic incident highlighting the perils of war reporting, Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Wednesday. Khalil was covering the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon when she sought refuge in a house in al-Tiri. An Israeli airstrike then targeted the location, resulting in Khalil's death.
The attack on the journalist has drawn sharp criticism, with Lebanese officials labeling it a violation of international law. Khalil, who reported for the daily Al-Akhbar newspaper, had been covering the conflict in the region since 2006. Her death adds to the growing list of journalists who have died in conflict zones in Lebanon this year.
The Israeli military, while denying intentional targeting, said the incident is under review. International organizations, including Reporters Without Borders and the Committee to Protect Journalists, have condemned the attack and called for pressure on Israel to ensure the protection of journalists in the region.
