On April 30, the Uttar Pradesh Assembly is set to dedicate its session to addressing the hotly debated Women's Reservation Bill. This comes after the bill's defeat in the Lok Sabha on April 17. As per Assembly Principal Secretary Pradeep Kumar Dubey, the Assembly intends to revisit the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, which aimed at ensuring women's reservation by 2029.
Governor Anandiben Patel has summoned the 18th Legislative Assembly for its second session, prompting political parties to prepare their stands ahead of the discussion. The BJP, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has already initiated a protest march, signaling an aggressive stance against oppositional forces.
Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav expressed firm opposition to the BJP's plans. He stated that his party will oppose the propositions both within the Assembly and in public spaces, thereby setting the stage for a contentious debate as political strategies unfold in the Vidhan Bhavan.
