The Maharashtra Charity Commissioner has extended the status quo regarding the contentious sale of a notable Jain trust's property in Pune. Both Gokhale Constructions and the Seth Hirachand Nemchand Smarak Trust have until October 30 to file their responses.
The property in question houses a long-standing Jain boarding facility and temple, and was acquired by Gokhale Constructions for Rs 311 crore. Community opposition arose, deeming the sale illegal, citing the trust's constitution.
Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol was linked to Gokhale Constructions, though he clarified he withdrew beforehand. Vishal Gokhale, a partner at the firm, has written to the trust seeking to annul the sale, amid rumblings about irregularities.
