In a fervent demonstration of solidarity, former minister and Prahar Janshakti Party leader, Bacchu Kadu, orchestrated a massive protest against the Maharashtra state government, calling for immediate, unconditional loan waivers for the state's distressed farmers. Arriving in Nagpur with thousands of farmers, the demonstrators effectively disrupted the Nagpur-Hyderabad National Highway (NH-44).
Protesters voiced their frustrations, accusing the government of reneging on repeated promises to aid the drought-ridden farming community. Kadu told ANI, "Our demand for debt relief stands firm. The state has failed to offer even basic support, such as Rs 6000 for soybean and a 20% crop bonus. Comparatively, Madhya Pradesh's Bhavantar Yojana provides substantial support, unlike Maharashtra where crop prices remain suppressed, and the Chief Minister is unresponsive to farmers' needs."
Despite the recent announcement of a Rs 31,628 crore relief package by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, aimed at rain-affected farmers, widespread discontent remains. The relief is intended to mitigate damage spread across 68 lakh hectares in 29 out of 36 districts. Furthermore, Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted additional initiatives including monetary aid and food provisions, yet the prevailing sentiment among farmers indicates a sustained struggle for effective resolutions.
