A fake call centre operation was dismantled in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after 116 individuals, including a juvenile, were detained for duping US citizens. Ahmedebad-based Valay Vyas, one of the central figures, is among the detained, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The elaborate scheme involved call centre employees threatening American citizens with false tax dues and coercing them to purchase digital gift cards. These cards' details were then used to siphon funds, which were eventually converted into cryptocurrency.
The crackdown revealed an array of evidence, including personal data of US citizens and fake documents. Employees earned salaries up to Rs 30,000 monthly with additional incentives. Authorities are proceeding to register a formal case in the local police station.
