The Delhi government is poised to advance its ambitious road decongestion strategy through an elevated ring road project, officials disclosed on Thursday. This undertaking, aimed at connecting north and south Delhi, will unfold in six phases. Public Works Department (PWD) minister Parvesh Sahib Singh announced the completion of the project's detailed report, marking a significant milestone.
"The consultants have submitted the DPR for the project and further examination is ongoing. We will take up the first phase from Mukarba Chowk to Ashram intersection. Later phases will follow after ground inspections," Singh stated. This project, with an estimated cost of Rs 7,000 crore, aims to reroute vehicular movement efficiently and ease gridlock along the existing ring road.
Spanning a total length of 55 kilometers, the elevated corridor promises to cut travel time considerably and decongest critical intersections. Initial phases target sections from Azadpur Flyover to Hanuman Temple and Chandgi Ram Akhara to Majnu Ka Tilla. Subsequent phases will stretch from DND Flyover to Moti Bagh Metro Station, with remaining legs extending connectivity further. Land acquisition, however, poses potential challenges particularly in areas marked for expansion.
