In a significant administrative shift, Delhi's residents in over 1,500 unauthorised colonies can now register their properties online through the MCD's Swagam portal. This development stems from a newly implemented policy for regularising unauthorised colonies on an 'as is where is' basis, reflecting a streamlined approach towards urban governance.
The transition involves transferring the power to issue critical property documents, such as conveyance deeds, from the Delhi Development Authority to the city's Revenue Department. This change aims to expedite the process for property owners, ensuring a more efficient issuance of regularisation certificates through the Swagam portal, subsequently allowing registrations via the National Generic Document Registration System.
The initiative is expected to impact over 10 lakh households, facilitating the inclusion of these colonies into the formal property landscape. However, certain colonies, particularly those situated in environmentally sensitive or affluent areas, remain excluded from this policy. Meanwhile, continuous efforts are being made to finalize a comprehensive standard operating procedure to guide this large-scale regularisation.
