Caste Violence Unfolds in Madhya Pradesh: Dalit Groom Assaulted

A Dalit groom with a physical disability was attacked by members of a dominant caste for riding a horse during his wedding ceremony in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh district. The incident, laden with casteist abuses, has prompted police action.

Authorities have detained four individuals involved, charging them under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The district collector is also considering actions under the National Security Act, as confirmed by a senior police official.

Superintendent of Police Shrut Kirti Somvanshi informed that security in Bijauri Pathak village has been tightened to maintain order, with ongoing investigations to uncover more potential suspects in the assault.
