Outrage Sparked by Assault at Homestay: Licence Revoked in Kodagu

The Kodagu district administration has taken decisive action following a reported sexual assault of a US tourist at a homestay. Officials have revoked the licence of Devi Villa homestay, situated in Kutta village, emphasizing their strict adherence to established norms.

Significantly, the decision was made even though the homestay's license was initially valid until 2029. The property, owned by P A Ponnappa, will now cease operations after authorities launched a probe into the disturbing allegations.

In response to the incident, which reportedly involved both the homestay owner and a staff member who have been arrested, the administration cited concerns over attempts to suppress the incident before being reported to police. The US embassy was later notified, leading to judicial custody of the accused.
