A US national claims she was sexually assaulted by staff at a homestay in Kutta village, Kodagu district, a week prior, according to police reports on Wednesday. The accused staff member, from Jharkhand, has since been arrested alongside the homestay owner, who allegedly attempted to suppress the incident.
The victim alleged her drink was spiked and was unable to reach out due to the owner's attempts to cut off communication. After escaping to Mysuru, she contacted the US embassy, leading to a registered complaint with local authorities. Kodagu's Superintendent of Police confirmed judicial custody for the accused.
State Home Minister recommends stricter adherence to homestay regulations, ensuring accountability. BJP leader C T Ravi urges immediate government action, stressing the adverse impact such incidents have on India's social image and values. 'Safety and dignity,' he emphasized, 'are non-negotiable.'
