A disturbing incident unfolded in Kodagu as a US national reported being sexually assaulted by a homestay staff member in Kutta village. Authorities confirmed the arrest of the suspect from Jharkhand working in the hospitality sector of the homestay. The owner is also under arrest for not reporting the crime upon being informed by the victim.
The woman claimed that her drink was spiked, which led to the assault. In a bid to cover up, the homestay owner allegedly cut off WiFi, hindering her communication efforts. This disconnect lasted three days, after which she left under the guise of traveling to Mysuru to contact authorities.
Once able to access WiFi, the victim reached out to the US consulate and filed a police report. An investigation has been launched, and arrests have been made as the police continue to seek justice in this troubling case.
