In Anjarakandy, Youth League activists led a protest march to a private dental college following the suspected suicide of Nithin Raj, a Dalit student. The group, part of the Indian Union Muslim League, clashed with police while demanding justice, accusing the institution of abetting Raj's death.
The protestors bypassed police barriers to storm the college entrance, leading to altercations with law enforcement. According to reports, the activists demand action against faculty members who allegedly harassed Raj, a first-year BDS student, leading to his death.
In response to the incident, several Dalit organizations have called for substantial compensation and announced a statewide protest. Police have registered a case against two faculty under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, while allegations suggest caste-based harassment played a role in Raj's demise.
