Judges at the International Criminal Court have confirmed three counts of murder as crimes against humanity against former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, paving the way for a trial.

The court found substantial grounds to believe Duterte was involved in the murders of 76 individuals and the attempted murder of two more, as part of his controversial anti-drug campaign.

Prosecutors assert that Duterte, during his tenure from 2016 to 2022, orchestrated death squads to eliminate suspected narcotics criminals. Attempts to dismiss the trial have been rejected, affirming the court's jurisdiction.
