The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has issued a strong advisory for Indians planning to travel to the Maldives, warning them of rigorous anti-drug laws recently implemented in the island nation.
With amendments to the Maldives' Drugs Act effective March 2026, penalties for drug-related offenses have become harsher, with life imprisonment and death penalty for large-scale trafficking.
The NCB urges travelers to stay alert about their personal belongings and refrain from carrying packages for others, as ignorance of the law won't be a defense against severe punishments.
