The unyielding summer heat sweeping across Rajasthan is severely impacting the region's wildlife, compelling zoos to implement extraordinary measures for the animals' welfare, officials reported Thursday.
At the Nahargarh Biological Park, zookeepers are installing coolers and sprinklers within enclosures and adjusting animal diets to combat the oppressive temperatures. Deputy Director Dr. Arvind Mathur highlighted the installation of jumbo coolers in animal shelters and ongoing water sprinkling efforts to create a cooler habitat.
Meanwhile, the Amber Elephant Village in Jaipur is grappling with similar heatwave challenges. Authorities there have altered daily routines for elephants, including multiple baths and the use of desert coolers to ease heat stress.
