Trinamool Congress leader Saket Gokhale has accused the Election Commission of issuing unofficial instructions to arrest over 1,000 party leaders ahead of the West Bengal polling first phase.
In a social media post, Gokhale claimed the arrests were aimed at destabilizing the party’s election prospects, describing it as an institutional breakdown, and alleging unfair advantage to the ruling party BJP.
A PIL has been filed in Calcutta High Court, seeking intervention as concerns about fair elections and democracy rise post the alleged selective arrests and raids targeting opposition leaders.
