The Election Commission has issued a stern warning against attempts to influence electronic voting machines (EVMs) with fragrance, labeling such acts as tampering and an electoral offence.
With the polls approaching in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal on April 23, the commission emphasized that any application of perfume or similar substances to EVM buttons would not be tolerated.
Presiding officers have been instructed to report any such incidents directly to the sector officer or returning officer, with criminal actions and possible re-polling on the table for those caught manipulating the voting units.
