In the Aizawl Municipal Corporation elections held on Tuesday, an impressive 61% voter turnout was reported, according to an election official. The peaceful voting process spanned across 19 wards and ended at 5 pm, although final voter numbers are still being confirmed.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma expressed confidence in a dominant win for the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), projecting that they would secure at least 16 of the 19 seats. He pledged transparency and accelerated development for Aizawl under ZPM leadership, despite recent political tensions aimed at the party.
Meanwhile, Mizo National Front (MNF) leader and former chief minister Zoramthanga remains hopeful for a third consecutive victory. Casting his vote, he emphasized MNF's proven governance as a deciding factor for voters. The results will be revealed on April 27 as 68 candidates compete for the 19-seat municipality.
