In a major breakthrough, four individuals, two of whom are bank managers, have been apprehended for their alleged involvement in a Rs 2.65 crore fraud at a state-owned bank in Nalgonda district of Telangana.
The main suspect, a contract housekeeping staff, colluded with managers from Devarkonda and Suryapet branches to exploit dormant accounts and siphon funds using a loophole in the KYC system. Rs 2.42 crore has been recovered, with efforts underway to retrieve the remaining stolen money.
The arrested individuals leveraged the bank's Management Information System to access sensitive account details and create forged identities. The fraud came to light after a vigilant account holder received an unauthorized KYC update alert and reported it, prompting a swift police investigation.
