A UK-based pharmacist, Ajith Kumar Mupparapu, is embroiled in an extradition battle as Indian authorities seek his return to stand trial on severe charges. The allegations involve a conspiracy and attempts to murder his estranged wife's family, including incidents using arsenic poisoning and orchestrated accidents.
The case unfolded in Westminster Magistrates Court, where the Crown Prosecution Service presented the evidence requested by India. The most serious accusation involves a plan to murder Sirisha Muttavarapu's family through arsenic. Since the tragic death of her mother in July 2023, Mupparapu has been wanted for questioning by the Telangana authorities.
Mupparapu's defense argues that there is insufficient evidence and raises concerns about potential torture if extradited. The hearing is set to conclude this week, with a decision expected at a later date.
