Congress claims a win for democracy as PM Modi and Amit Shah's delimitation proposal, tied to women's reservation, is defeated in Lok Sabha. In a significant political development, the Congress party declared a win for democracy following the defeat of the delimitation proposal advocated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The proposal, linked to women's reservation, faced strong opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh criticized the linkage of delimitation with women's reservation, stating it was an attack on democracy and the Constitution. He emphasized the need to implement the 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha by 2029.
The rejection of the Bill, with 230 MPs voting against it, challenges the government's initiatives and the legitimacy of the current PM, as the opposition continues to push for the Nari Shakti Vandan Act's provisions.
