BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of orchestrating violence and a gherao in Malda's Sujapur, directed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Adhikari claims this occurred during the SIR exercise, targeting judicial officers involved in the program.
Addressing a press conference, Adhikari pointed fingers at Banerjee and local leader Sabina Yasmin, asserting they orchestrated the gherao from the TMC's top levels. Security forces eventually rescued the judicial officers after hours of tension. In contrast, Banerjee held the Election Commission responsible for failing to protect the officers, accusing Union Home Minister Amit Shah of engineering administrative changes.
Adhikari also demanded accountability for alleged administrative bias during his nomination filing procession and criticized the actions of certain police officers. He urged the Election Commission to take action and called for a federal inquiry into the Malda incident, warning of potential evidence tampering. The Supreme Court has described the incident as deplorable and demanded explanations from state authorities.
