Manipur Congress Urges Census Delay Amid Crisis

The Manipur Congress has urged that the upcoming Census in the state be delayed until normalcy returns and all internally displaced persons can go back to their homes. The appeal was made by state unit president, Okram Ibobi Singh, who warned that current conditions would produce inaccurate data.
With many Meitei residents displaced to relief camps and Kuki residents relocated to hill areas, Singh emphasized that accurate data collection isn't feasible under such circumstances. He stressed that the party is not against the Census itself but wants it conducted under conditions that ensure data integrity.
The state government plans to proceed with house-listing operations in September despite these concerns and public demands for delays until measures like a National Register of Citizens are in place to identify illegal immigrants.
