A Goa Police sub-inspector has been suspended following accusations of misconduct leading to a man's severe injury in custody. The man, arrested for causing a public disturbance, reportedly suffered a skull fracture, prompting the opposition Aam Aadmi Party to demand serious charges against the officer.
The incident, which occurred on October 22, has sparked significant criticism from political leaders and raised concerns about police accountability. PSI Nilesh Shirvaikar of Margao police station was suspended after reports emerged that Edburg Pereira, the arrested individual, required hospitalization for a head injury.
While superintendent Tikam Singh Verma stated that Pereira's injuries resulted from a fall during resistance, Pereira's mother alleged excessive force was used. The situation has amplified calls for legal action and government transparency, as claims of increasing lawlessness are exacerbated by this incident.
