The Delhi government is advancing its environmental initiatives with an action plan to plant 3.5 lakh saplings in schools during the 2026–27 academic session. The Directorate of Education's plan aims to expand green cover and combat pollution.
This initiative follows successful plantation efforts in 2025–26 and involves planting one lakh trees and 2.5 lakh shrubs across government, government-aided, and private schools. Eco-Club members will lead the efforts, augmented by awareness campaigns and activities such as poster making and essay contests.
Set to culminate in a special drive on August 11, 2026, schools are expected to achieve 80% of their plantation targets by then. The Forest Department will supply free saplings, while education officials monitor progress and maintain records of plantation success rates.
