The Delhi government has issued a directive prohibiting private unaided schools from forcing parents to buy educational materials from specific vendors. This move aims to ensure that families can choose where to purchase books, uniforms, and writing materials, promoting fair competition and preventing financial strain.
The Directorate of Education highlighted that schools, operating on a 'no profit, no loss' basis, must not commercialize educational materials, which would place unnecessary financial burdens on parents. Schools are required to provide transparent, class-wise lists of required items to parents, offering multiple purchasing options in the market.
By compelling schools to upload these lists on their websites, the directive seeks to curb commercial exploitation and safeguard the interests of students and their families, aligning procurement practices with guidelines from education boards such as the CBSE and ICSE.
