High Court Push for CCTV Surveillance Around Lucknow Schools

In a move aimed at alleviating traffic congestion around major educational institutions in Lucknow, the Allahabad High Court's Lucknow bench has directed state authorities to consider the installation of CCTV cameras near schools for real-time traffic management.
The directive was issued by Justices Alok Mathur and Brijraj Singh, addressing a public interest litigation filed back in 2020. Residents of the Gomti riverbank had raised concerns over traffic woes during school opening and closing times.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Raveena Tyagi, emphasized the effectiveness of the Smart City Control Room in monitoring traffic, suggesting similar benefits around school zones with CCTV. The court has called for more discussions between government departments and school administrations, with a subsequent hearing scheduled for April 28.
