Transforming Waste to Wealth: Delhi's Biogas Breakthrough

A 100-ton-per-day biogas plant is slated for construction in north Delhi, near Bhalaswa and Jharoda dairies, targeting the management of cattle waste and the reduction of pollution in the Yamuna River, according to official sources.

The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) plans to submit the project proposal to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi soon. The plant will cover an eight-acre area, complementing the clusters of around 6,000 cattle and processing 50 tonnes each from both dairies.

Environmentalists emphasize that although cattle waste isn't a primary pollutant, it represents an easily managed resource under a circular economy model. Rising LPG prices provide an economic push for biogas adoption, yet public engagement is crucial for the initiative's success.
