The esteemed Uffizi Galleries in Florence confirmed on Friday that a cyberattack struck earlier this year. However, they strongly denied any significant breach or theft of data, contrary to recent media reports.
Reports from Corriere della Sera suggested severe consequences, including emptied servers and the emergency movement of valuable jewels to the Bank of Italy. But the Uffizi clarified that these events were unrelated to the cyber incident and that no data was compromised.
The museum emphasized that the only disturbance from the attack was due to server backup restorations. It reiterated that a planned upgrade of surveillance cameras, accelerated by a separate incident at the Louvre, is in progress for enhanced security.
