Severe flooding has struck central Vietnam, hitting popular tourist spots such as Hue and Hoi An. Government reports on Tuesday indicated that heavy rains inundated these UNESCO-listed areas, with rainfall surpassing 1,000 millimeters within a 24-hour frame.
Authorities reported widespread evacuations as floodwaters in Hue reached unprecedented levels, submerging homes and cutting off transportation routes. In Hoi An, state media showcased images of submerged houses while officials dispatched rescue boats to evacuate stranded tourists.
The adverse weather prompted Vietnam Railways to halt services between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, while hundreds of thousands of households faced power cuts. With river levels rising, officials warn of ongoing floods and landslide threats as Vietnam continues to grapple with storm-induced destruction.
