British actress Prunella Scales, who charmed audiences as Sybil Fawlty in the iconic comedy 'Fawlty Towers', has died at the age of 93, according to a statement released by her sons on Tuesday.

Scales' extensive acting career began in the 1950s and included memorable roles such as her part in the 1960s sitcom 'Marriage Lines', before gaining fame in the 1970s for 'Fawlty Towers'. She was married to fellow actor Timothy West for 61 years until his death last November, and had been battling dementia.

In their tribute, her sons shared that Scales passed away peacefully at her London home and had been watching 'Fawlty Towers' the day prior to her death. The beloved sitcom, set in a hotel in the seaside town of Torquay, remains a significant piece of British cultural history and inspired a theatre adaptation that premiered in London's West End in 2024.
