A government school teacher in Gawana was suspended on Tuesday for administering severe corporal punishment on a student, according to a statement from the education department.
Reena Rathore, head teacher at Government Primary School, was filmed beating a shirtless student with a prickly stick in her office. The video, showing the boy crying, went viral on social media and drew widespread criticism.
The Deputy Director of Education for Shimla District immediately suspended Rathore, citing the violation of Section 17 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, and the Central Civil Services Conduct Rules.
This incident marks the second suspension in the Rohru subdivision in four days, following the suspension of another teacher for being intoxicated on duty.
