Farewell to a Comedy Legend: Prunella Scales Passes at 93

British actress Prunella Scales, celebrated for her iconic portrayal of the formidable Sybil Fawlty in the classic comedy series 'Fawlty Towers,' has died at the age of 93, her sons announced in a statement on Tuesday.

Sybil Fawlty, the feisty wife of Basil Fawlty, played by John Cleese, was a central character in the two series of 'Fawlty Towers', which aired in 1975 and 1979. Set in a chaotic seaside hotel in Torquay, the series became one of Britain's most beloved comedies, continuing to resonate with audiences globally even today.

Prunella Scales, who was married to actor Timothy West for 61 years until his death last November, had been battling dementia. Her prolific career spanned over seven decades, with standout roles in various productions, including the Oscar-winning film 'Howards End'. Born in Surrey in 1932, Scales began her acting journey at The Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol.
