Delhi Metro Ventures into Ports with Smart Cargo System

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has officially embarked on its first venture into the port sector. On Tuesday, it inked an agreement with the Deendayal Port Authority, Umeandus Technology Private Limited, and Bharat Earth Movers Limited to develop a state-of-the-art real-time automated cargo evacuation system at Kandla, Gujarat.

The new system, named e-FTS, promises to revolutionize freight transport using cutting-edge technologies like blockchain, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the Internet of Things. These innovations aim to enhance operational efficiency, cut costs, and promote sustainable cargo handling. The project, initially set for a 25-year operation under DMRC, holds potential for replication based on specific local needs across various sites.

In a separate achievement, DMRC was selected for the high-profile ICI Awards 2025 by the Indian Concrete Institute for its exemplary work on the Maujpur-Majlis Park corridor, a significant part of Delhi Metro's Phase-4 expansion. Set to receive the award at the ACECON conference in Hyderabad in December 2025, this corridor is poised to become India's first circular metro line, promising to transform urban connectivity in Delhi.
