The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate, Kunki Chowdhury, has taken legal action by filing a police complaint against the circulation of allegedly defamatory deepfake videos on social media. These videos purportedly aim to malign her family and electoral image, following claims made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma concerning her mother's diet and social media posts.
Chowdhury asserts that the manipulated content not only affects her reputation but also threatens electoral integrity. She demands swift police intervention to address the misuse of AI technology intended to damage her electoral prospects and defame both her and her mother, Sujata Gurung Chowdhury.
Despite entering politics just 15 days ago, Chowdhury believes these attacks signify the ruling party's fear of losing in the upcoming elections. She accuses certain BJP-linked individuals of spreading the fabricated videos, underlining the urgency for ensuring a fair and dignified electoral process. The Assam Assembly elections are scheduled for April 9, with results to be announced on May 4.
