The Election Commission on Saturday ordered the suspension of four key Kolkata Police officials following their failure to manage law and order during BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari's nomination filing in the competitive Bhabaniour seat.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah was present with Adhikari when the nomination papers were filed on April 2, a confrontation against incumbent Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in South Kolkata. The decision, based on West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal's recommendation, saw action against top police officials such as Deputy Commissioner Siddhartha Dutta and others.
The incident saw a tense standoff between BJP and Trinamool Congress supporters, leading to heightened tension and disrupted traffic as police formed a barrier to maintain peace.
