Discrepancies in election affidavits submitted by actor and politician Vijay have emerged, sparking potential legal challenges ahead of upcoming assembly elections. The documents for Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East show conflicting statements regarding pending criminal cases and election financial accounts, raising potential issues under election law.
The Perambur affidavit, notarized in Chennai, claims Vijay has no criminal cases, while the Tiruchirappalli document, notarized three days later, lists two pending FIRs, including an incident involving bouncers causing public nuisance. Furthermore, financial declarations also differ, with varying bank account details across the documents.
Legal experts warn that discrepancies and misrepresentations in sworn election affidavits are serious violations under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which could result in legal consequences. Rival candidates might object based on these inconsistencies, seeking legal remedy. TVK has yet to respond to the issue.
