Mamata Banerjee Challenges BJP ahead of 2024 Elections

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has criticized the Congress party for what she perceives as its role in enabling the BJP's ascent to power in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In an impassioned speech at an election rally in Malda, a region traditionally dominated by Congress, Banerjee emphasized that only a formidable opposition can effectively challenge the BJP.

She claimed that had Congress been a stronger entity, the BJP might not have been as successful in previous general elections. Banerjee, contesting the narrative promoted by the BJP, asserted that West Bengal stands prime to lead future challenges against the national ruling party, insisting that attempts by the BJP to undermine the state would prove futile.

Banerjee also expressed her critique of Congress's perceived inactivity, accusing the party of remaining largely silent throughout the year before fielding candidates just at election times. She recalled her own political journey, which led her to form the Trinamool Congress due to perceived marginalization by both Congress and CPI(M), and she accused these traditional rivals of now having unholy alliances with the BJP.
