The chief of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee, Govind Singh Dotasra, has accused the ruling BJP government of undermining democratic processes by postponing elections to panchayati raj institutions and urban local bodies. These comments were made during a gathering in Beawar, as part of the party's state-wide campaign named 'Sangathan Badhao Loktantra Bachao'.
Dotasra argued that the BJP's delay tactics, despite constitutional mandates, are symptomatic of their fear of electoral defeat. He pointed to neglect of constitutional principles originally championed by figures like B.R. Ambedkar, particularly regarding equality and voting rights. Dotasra emphasized that local body polls are mandated to occur every five years but are not being held timely.
Reaching out to various sections of the society, including farmers and small traders, Dotasra called for unity among party workers under Rahul Gandhi's leadership to protect democratic and constitutional values. The event had in attendance the Leader of Opposition, Tikaram Jully, and other local party leaders.
