As political dynamics heat up ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a scathing attack on the current government. Speaking at a Nazira rally, she accused the administration of rampant corruption and operating through 'mafia and syndicate rule.' Stressing the public's weariness, Vadra asserted that Assam's citizens yearn for rejuvenation under a government solely devoted to public service.
Addressing reporters, she highlighted dissatisfaction with the alleged threats and illegal activities under the regime, insisting that people want to restore Assam’s past glory through a new leadership. Following accusations from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma that Congress politicized singer Zubeen Garg’s death, Vadra firmly denied such claims, emphasizing the party’s commitment to accountability and justice.
Promising quick action should the Congress come to power, she vowed that within 100 days, justice would be delivered for Zubeen Garg's untimely death. Additionally, she pledged to replace temporary land deeds with permanent ones for 10 lakh local residents, the 'Bhumiputras.' As polls approach, Congress gears up to challenge the enduring BJP-led NDA, who, alongside its allies, seeks a third consecutive term.
