The Yuva Vigyani Karyakram (YUVIKA), a young scientist programme, has engaged 1,320 students, signaling a surge in interest among young learners for space-related studies, according to Union Minister Jitendra Singh.
In a statement to the Lok Sabha, Singh noted that the programme is designed for Class 9 students across India, providing a foundational grasp of space science, technology, and applications, while encouraging students to consider careers in the space sector. The selection process involves online academic credential screening and quiz performance followed by a thorough verification to ensure fairness.
Launched in 2019, YUVIKA includes special provisions ensuring wider access, with a 15% reservation for rural and remote students to promote equitable opportunities. Singh emphasized that initiatives like YUVIKA support the broader vision of an empowered scientific community in India by nurturing early talent.
