On Wednesday, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi leveled serious allegations against the Assam government, led by Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing it of corruption and imposing 'mafia rule' over the state. She denied allegations that the Congress was politicizing the death of beloved singer Zubeen Garg, emphasizing that seeking justice for well-regarded public figures is a political necessity, not opportunism.
In her address to the press, Gandhi stressed that the Assamese populace is disillusioned with the current administration's alleged misconduct. "This is a corrupt Government," she asserted, criticizing its use of threats and coercive tactics. Gandhi highlighted the demand for honest leadership under Congress, led by Gaurav Gogoi, known for his integrity.
Earlier in a rally at Nazira, she called for an end to what she labeled a 'government of double-slavery'. She urged the citizens to opt for ethical governance that truly serves public interests. The Assam election will be a battleground between BJP-led NDA and Congress, with polling set for April 9 and counting on May 4. The BJP aims for a third term alongside Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People's Front, while Congress seeks to reclaim power.
