Prashant Kishor's Dual Voter Registration Controversy Heats Up Bihar Politics

The political landscape in Bihar is heating up as Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor finds himself embroiled in an electoral controversy. The Election Commission has issued a notice to Kishor over allegations of dual voter registration in Bihar and West Bengal, demanding clarification within three days.

The notice, based on a newspaper report, states that Kishor's registration in both regions contravenes Section 17 of the Representation of People Act, 1950, which prohibits being registered in more than one constituency. A breach of this law could result in imprisonment, a fine, or both, per Section 31 of the same Act.

Reacting to the notice, Kishor questioned the Election Commission's procedures, claiming his voter ID is solely registered in Bihar's Kargahar Assembly constituency since 2021. BJP MP Rajeev Pratap Rudy dismissed the significance of discussing Kishor, arguing he lacks electoral influence.
