In a bold move ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, the INDIA bloc released a manifesto on Tuesday pledging to fight for official language status for Bhojpuri, Magahi, Bajjika, and Angika. These languages resonate deeply with the cultural tapestry of Bihar, yet they remain absent from the official linguistic landscape.
The manifesto outlines plans to incorporate these regional languages into the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. By securing this status, the bloc aims to acknowledge the rich heritage and importance of these languages, connecting with the identity of many Bihari residents.
Criticism has surfaced against the ruling NDA, with accusations of ignoring the linguistic aspirations of communities. CPI(ML) Liberation MLA Ajeet Kumar Singh lamented the perceived neglect by NDA leaders, including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and underscored the need for linguistic justice in Bihar.
